Gunung Mas Regency

The capital of Gunung Mas regency (Kabupaten) is the town of Kuala Kurun which is located in the district (Kecamatan) of Kurun. The regency consists of 12 kecamatan in all, which are as follows: Manuhing, Manuhing Raya, Rungan, Rungan Hulu, Rungan Barat, Sepang, Mihing Raya, Kurun, Tewah, Kahayan Hulu Utara, Damang Batu, and Miri Manasa. There are many villages in each of these districts, with a total of 114 villages (desa) in the regency.

The YTS community development program, implemented on behalf of PT Kalimantan Surya Kencana, has long been engaged in the latter three kecamatan: namely, Kahayan Hulu Utara, Damang Batu, and Miri Manasa. These kecamatan are located in the upper reaches of the Kahayan river system, and as such, lie closest to the company’s mineral exploration area.
