Health and Pollution Action Plan for Katingan and Gunung Mas

In March 2019, the Global Alliance on Health and Pollution (GAHP) began its Health and Pollution Action Plan (HPAP) project in Central Kalimantan, partnering with YTS and Pure Earth. It is funded by Oak Foundation and Swiss Agency for Development Cooperation. Considering the vastness of Indonesia and the close working relationship between YTS and Pure Earth, the founder of GAHP, Central Kalimantan was chosen for the HPAP project. The action plan will address pollution in three areas: smoke from peat and forest fires, mercury from Artisanal and Small-Scale Gold Mining (ASGM) and pesticides from agriculture and plantations. Two key stakeholders are the Environment Agency (DLH) and Health Service Office. YTS was involved in drafting the Regional Action Plan for Mercury Reduction and Elimination (RAD-PPM). One of the goals of the project is to have the RAD-PPM integrated into the Regional Medium Term Development Plan (RPJMD) of 2022-2026. A public consultation for the RAD-PPM was held in Katingan in July and in Gunung Mas in September. It was an opportunity for all stakeholders to give feedback or suggestions on the action plan.
